Editorial : About the AuthorMikell P. Groover is Professor Emeritus of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Lehigh University, where he taught and did research for 44 years. He received his B.A. in Arts and Science (1961), B.S. in Mechanical Engineering (1962), M.S. in Industrial Engineering (1966), and Ph.D. (1969), all from Lehigh. His industrial experience includes several years as a manufacturing engineer before embarking on graduate studies at Lehigh.

His teaching and research areas include manufacturing processes, production systems, automation, material handling, facilities planning, and work systems. He has received a number of teaching awards at Lehigh University, as well as the Albert G. Holzman Outstanding Educator Award from the Institute of Industrial Engineers (1995) and the SME Education Award from the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (2001). His publications include over 75 technical articles and 12 books (list

Essentially, she determined that there must be something inside the firm that drives its growth (i.e. Just what I needed. Back in 1959, when the male gender dominated the economics discipline, Ms. Growth, she concludes is possible for all firms - size does not necessarily mean that a firm is more efficient (which is the typical economic argument). I didn't make these notes simply because the book is a "classic".. success).

The author explores the reasons for such growth. This book helped provide the foundation for what has become known as the resource-based view of the firm (RBV). With this book, Penrose founded what's known as the resource-based view. One other way to express this is that my notes on this book are very detailed and lengthy. Penrose also discusses the role of time, and the difference between a small or a larger company growing. Good book, used for class. Overall a very capable text. When coupled with a well developed laboratory, would be a text for a very co
